Saint Gertrude was a great mystic of the Middle Ages, in the 13th century (1256 to 1302), living from the age of five in the monastery of the Cistercian order in Helfta, where she became a nun. Endowed with immense intellectual capacity , during her life she acquired a great Christian culture, as well as the culture of society itself. His contemplative life towards God, expressions of piety and simplicity, left everyone around him fascinated. However, human intelligence and culture no longer filled her soul, she longed for something much greater. This "gap" would only be filled when he began to receive private revelations directly from Our Lord Jesus Christ during her contemplative prayers (seen as an example of perseverance by the other sisters of the monastery). From then on, she was frequently overcome by ecstasies and raptures, especially during masses. Jesus' first appearance to the nun was so impactful that she herself classified it as the "day of her conversion". Of course, during her life of study at the monastery she was already converted, what she intended to highlight was a conversion on a much deeper level compared to the lukewarmness she experienced previously.
In this first meeting, in 1281, at the age of 25, Jesus appeared to her as a young man of approximately 16 years old, whom he described as having divine beauty, incomparable to human beauty. And God said to her: “Your salvation is near; why are you consumed with pain?… I will save you, I will deliver you; do not fear".
Jesus subsequently appeared to the saint many times, showing her His Sacred Heart . Gertrude then became the first propagator of the cult of the Sacred Heart of Jesus , which only centuries later would be further spread throughout the world by Saint Margaret of Alacoque, in the 17th century - when He granted His promises to those who worshiped His Sacred Heart.
Two great highlights can be highlighted in these formidable encounters between God and Saint Gertrude. The first was her previous studies of the word of the Bible and the lives of the saints who preceded her (such as Saint Augustine, Saint Gregory the Great, Saint Bernard, among others) to later dialogue with God close to His Sacred Heart. With this attitude, he could learn more and imitate God and his holy brothers. She wrote all these dialogues in sequence, turning them into books later. The most prominent works were The Herald of Divine Love and Spiritual Exercises. Her writings described the immeasurable Love of Christ, which is the same for all of us. Her mystical theology was so remarkable that Pope Benedict XIV awarded him the title: "The Great".
A parenthesis here: this is one of our purposes at Miraculum in publicizing the lives of the saints: so that we can all do like Saint Gertrude and copy, at least a little, the lives of each sanctified brother and constantly improve ourselves until our future meeting with God! This way, we may have little left to sanctify ourselves through purgatory, leaving it to God to decide. The second highlight of these dialogues, the theme of this post, is a prayer taught by Jesus that transformed her into one of the patron saints ofsouls in purgatory. The Eternal Father promised that everyone who said this very brief prayer would free 1000 (thousand) souls from purgatory!!! It is described below:
"Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Precious Blood of Your Divine Son Jesus, in union with all the Masses that are celebrated throughout the world today; for all the Holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners of all the Church, for those of my home and my neighbors. Amen."
By praying this brief recitation that lasts just 15 SECONDS, a very short time, you will be responsible for freeing 1000 brothers from purgatory!

It is worth remembering that ALL souls in purgatory no longer feel ingratitude or any other bad feeling.
Saint Alphonsus Liguori talks very well about this gratitude of the souls in purgatory for us who pray to them, in his book The Prayer (p. 27) :
"I don't know how anyone who fails to offer them (the souls) any help, at least some prayers, can exempt themselves from guilt. If we are not moved by the obligation we have, at least we are moved by the joy we bring to Our Lord Jesus Christ when we apply ourselves to freeing His beloved wives (already saved souls) to unite with Him in paradise. Finally, we are moved by the great benefits that we can obtain by practicing this great act of charity towards those holy souls. They are very grateful and well know the great benefit we do for them, relieving them of those pains and ensuring, through our prayers, that they can more quickly enter glory. Once there, they will not stop praying for us. If the Lord promises to be merciful to those who practice mercy: "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy" (Matthew 5:7), with great reason, those who seek to help the souls in purgatory who are so afflicted and so dear to God can hope for salvation. (...) Furthermore, says Saint Augustine (quoting another saint) , whoever in this life helps the souls in purgatory the most, God will make sure that he is also helped by another when he is there in the middle of those flames. A great suffrage for the souls in purgatory is to participate in the Holy Mass and commend them to God, for the merits of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ."
To get a sense of this immense gratitude of the suffraged souls, observe what Saint Bridget heard from a choir of souls in a vision of purgatory that she obtained granted by God:
"Thanks, a thousand thanks Lord, to all who relieve us in our misfortunes... Lord, may Your power pay a CENTUPLE (a hundred times more) to our well-doers who led us to Your eternal and divine light"
Imagine, then, the good you will do for others and for yourself by praying this quick prayer several times a day???!!! It's another TREASURE great thing that our merciful God granted to His children and His Holy Church.
