Grégorio was born into a family whose mother, called Mônica, was very Christian and devoted to Saint Augustine, but with an atheist father. He insisted that his son could not be baptized after birth, under the terrible argument that he was the one who should choose this as an adult.

Thus, when he reached his youth, the lack of a more regulated Christian education combined with the world's misdirections led him to get lost in life... His mother's constant warnings and encouragement to seek God had little or no effect. The young man began to live in a world of repeated nightclubs during the week, fueled by drugs.

Mônica even managed to get the priest of her parish to talk to Gregório to encourage him to seek the sacrament of Baptism, but he made fun of the parish priest and his faith, reinforcing that he would never believe in God. The situation seemed irremediable...

His mother, then, makes a total surrender into the hands of Saint Augustine, seeking his intercession with God:

In front of a large painting of the saint in his home, he begs: " Saint Augustine, stretch out your hands to take Gregory out of the darkness..."

And the young man's addiction continues to increase... until one day he arrives at a club, together with his girlfriend (Keith) and a drug dealer friend, Luigi, from whom he always bought his drugs. As soon as they enter, they both start drinking, but under criticism from his girlfriend who has been trying to get him off this path. Shortly afterwards, they both want to leave the place. Keith offers to drive, as she was sober, but the two disappear, leaving her behind.

Gregório takes the wheel, at high speed. On the way, Luigi offers him more drugs to make him speed up even more... He consumes while driving... His foot now reaches the bottom of the accelerator, final gear... And what is expected in this situation happens: he loses direction, crashes strongly and rolls over. His drug dealer friend survives, while Gregório is hospitalized in a coma

At that moment, the doctor told the parents and Keith that the situation was the worst possible, to prepare for the worst. During the weeks that followed, the medical team carried out countless tests until they reached the final verdict and informed the family next to Gregório lying on the bed in his room - who remained static, with only his eyes open (but in a coma):

- We are sorry to inform you that Gregório's coma is irreversible, he will remain in a vegetative state forever . It will just change to waking states, with eyes open, but it is not there (it is not conscious)...

The shock was brutal for the family ... But what they didn't know was that the young man heard everything at his bedside and mentally thought:

- "NO!!! MOM, MOM, I'M HERE!!!! Don't leave me... Why don't you listen to me???"

Gregório, despite being conscious, did not understand his vegetative state... Only his girlfriend really thought he could hear:

- Keity : "Love, I know you listen to me, don't leave us... Your parents were devastated by the doctor's news."

- Gregório (in thought) : "I'm not going to leave you, my love! Look at me, I'm already cured! I know I was an asshole taking drugs and not listening to my mother..."

- Keith : " Sometimes I feel like a fool talking to you here and you're not responding..."

- Gregório (in thought) : "What? No... I'm answering you yes... Keity .. Keity ..." And she leaves.

At this moment he realized that they weren't listening to him... But his mother spent entire days by his side, reading books by Saint Augustine and in prayer. On some occasions, she asked her mother for forgiveness for not having listened to her, even though she knew she wouldn't listen. His father wanted to let him go, thinking he would be suffering, but Monica didn't allow it and remained firm in prayer with God.

One of the nights by his side, Mônica slept with her head against her son's bed. Gregory then hears a voice:

- "Gregório! Gregory! Get up and read!!!"

Immediately his soul stood up, while his body remained lying down. He wanted to give his mother a big hug but he couldn't. But he was grateful that she didn't abandon him at any point.

Then picked up the book she was reading by Saint Augustine , opened it at random and read the following passage, referring to a moment when the saint's mother prayed a lot for her son while he was a refugee:

"She cried for my spiritual death. My God, You heard her cry. Then You heard that before her tears I watered the earth before Your Eyes. She prayed for me everywhere and the Lord heard her prayers". After reading, he caressed his mother's hair and laid his soul over her body again.

Mônica wakes up early telling her husband that she had a beautiful dream. But at this moment he was irreducible and had even called the priest to give the Anointing of the Sick (at the time still called Extreme Unction) to their son...

When the priest arrives later, he begins the Anointing procedures and finishes by making the sign of the cross in front of his body. And the unbelievable miracle happens immediately before everyone:

Gregório opens his eyes, wakes up and begins to say: "Mommy... Mommy... I love you so much...". And life goes back to normal!!! His girlfriend and parents hug him, radiating the size of a miracle before their eyes!

In a few weeks Gregório will recover the normal state of his muscles until he becomes strong. He then tells his mother that on that day she said she had a beautiful dream, he heard a voice telling him to get up and read Saint Augustine's book. He even indicated the page and text he read in the book. She opened it and it was exactly what it said! As a convinced atheist before the accident, he would never have read that book, much less would he have memorized sentences and pages. So Monica and Gregory himself had no doubts: it was Saint Augustine who made the intercession with God for the miracle. And the young man finally makes a request to his mother:

- Mom, I want to be baptized!

As for the young man's father, he asks his son's forgiveness for not having believed at a certain point that he could return to life. The miracle was investigated in detail by the church, taken to the Vatican and considered true. Saint Augustine had already been canonized by popular acclaim as well as becoming a doctor of the church in 1292, but Gregory's miracle was the first officially investigated and recognized by the Vatican.
