The Miracles of the Vine, Figs and Rose by Saint Rita of Cascia

Saint Rita was always very obedient, humbly doing what was attributed to her by her sisters, transmitting peace and meekness. Upon her entry into the convent, her mother superior, with the aim of testing her obedience, asked her to plant and water a dry, dead wooden branch that was lying there. Every day the saint began humbly watering the branch twice a day without any questioning of why it was passed on to her as a daily task, under the incessant laughter of her sisters - for they saw how impossible it was to give life to that dead piece of wood.

A year later, God rewards her by making sprout from that dead twig some small leaves, which were growing and became a showy vine. To this day the bush is strong and alive in the convent, offering delicious grapes over the centuries.

Another miracle related to nature was that of the fig and the rose, attributed to its intercession. It was when he was already in the last moments of his life, gathered as always inside his room in prayer, lovingly enduring his pains. Then ask one of your sisters who would like a fig and a rose.  This was the sign that the saint had asked God to know if her husband Paolo, who was murdered, and her twin sons who died of disease, were saved together with God. But the sister said it was impossible because it snowed a lot and there was no life under the thick layer of snow in the convent garden.

However, thinking that the saint was delirious in the face of her final moments of life or even not to disappoint Santa Rita, the sister heads to the garden to check if there was something. And to his astonishment he observed that:

Miraculously there were two beautiful figs in the frozen fig tree, as well as a beautiful flower at the tip of the rose bush also frozen by the snow.

He led them running to the saint, who can finally rest in peace knowing that his loved ones were with Him and that he would rejoin his earthly relatives and God. The tradition of blessing roses arises at the feast of Saint Rita of Cascia. READ or SEE MORE by accessing the links of the references in this text below.
