The miracles during the martyrdoms of Saint Filomena

Deocletian was emperor of Rome during the years 285 to 305, being one of the greatest persecutors of Christians. In one of his declarations of war, Filomena's parents went to Rome to ask the emperor for peace, taking their beautiful daughter along. He agreed as long as they were given his daughter in marriage. But the young woman had already taken her vows of chastity to Jesus and did not accept.

The emperor then sent her to be tortured for about 40 days, in which he received the vision of Our Lady who helped her. When she came to a state of pure blood and wounds almost dead, she was thrown into prison but two angels appeared to her at night to visit her and then:

They covered her with a balm that healed her entirely from all wounds and made her even more beautiful. Deocletian was very astonished and even his executioner converted to Christianity.

But he didn't stop. He now had an anchor tied to her neck and threw it into the river. But God's angels cut the ropes and the anchor sank without the young woman, who was carried by the angels to the shore without being wet. He tried a third way: kill her with arrows with heated spikes in ovens. But:

The archers fired but the arrows turned around in the air and killed the shooters themselves.

Such miraculous prodigiousconverted many who accompanied the martyrdoms of the young woman, further angering the emperor who finally ordered her to behead, becoming a martyr and today affectionately called the "princess" of heaven!
